Kentucky football will try and start 3-0 and finish up the bulk of non-conference play before the SEC schedule unfolds. The Wildcats also look to showcase more of a complete game, after only taking down Eastern Kentucky by 11 points last week.
For the second time in three weeks, UK will face a MAC opponent. While the Wildcats blew out Ball State by 30 points in week 1, Akron could present their toughest challenge yet. The Zips are 1-1, with a 3-point win over Morgan State, and a 3-point loss to Temple in week 1.
While the small victory over Morgan State is underwhelming, the near win against Temple says a lot about where the Zips are this year. Akron is coming off of a 2-10 season, so to compete with a program like Temple means they must be coming along better in 2023. Now, the Owls are not a great football team, but for Akron, it shows that the team is ready to compete, and won’t go down without a fight.
However, week 3 might be a good time for Kentucky football to show what they’re capable of. We saw flashes of a dominant team against Ball State, but that faded against EKU. It’s vital for UK to play a great game from start to finish and get to a convincing 3-0.
