  • No. 4 – Ole Miss Rebels (2-0)

Last week: 4

Ole Miss bumps up the SEC heavyweights tier to four teams instead of three. Playing a Tulane team without its starting QB, the Rebels won by 17, on the road. If Michael Pratt was playing, it may have been different, but we can only go by what we saw on the field. And being honest, it was a talented Rebels offense and a shutdown Rebels defense. They only allowed 342 total yards of offense and had no trouble creating offense, and scores, of their own. If you haven’t taken Ole Miss seriously yet, you might want to start doing so.

  • No. 3 – Alabama Crimson Tide (1-1)

Last week: 2

I have no choice but to drop Alabama after suffering an early loss to Texas. When it gets down to it, the Tide were the home team and were supposed to win. The Longhorns proved they were the better team, have the better QB in Quinn Ewers, and will be a serious threat when they join the SEC next season. Jalen Milroe may also not be the right guy to start at QB for Bama, who also got nothing out of running back Jase McClellan. Apparently, Texas already has an SEC defense ahead of time.

  • No. 2 – Tennessee Volunteers (2-0)

Last week: 3

Only beating Austin Peay by 17 points is a bit suspect, but don’t blame Jaylen Wright. The Vols RB averaged 9.1 yards per rush, on his way to 118 yards. Joe Milton III could have been better, but lost in translation in the close win was the fact that Tennessee’s defense was great for the second straight game. A game at Florida this week will be crucial for UT to come out as their best version of themselves.

  • No. 1 – Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)

Last week: 1

Realistically, Georgia should be in their own tier. There’s not much more you could ask for from a team. The Bulldogs have dropped 45+ points in two straight games, and have allowed 10 total points. It’s been against much weaker competition, but that will change this week, when the Dawgs host South Carolina. In the big picture, South Carolina is a solid football team. Georgia may make them look like an FCS team. That’s how good the Bulldogs are.
