Kentucky football looks to keep the record unblemished when it hosts Eastern Kentucky this Saturday at 3 p.m. The Wildcats 30-pieced Ball State in week 1 and look to follow that up with another big win over an in-state rival.
This week’s game is the second of three must-win non-conference games in a row for the Wildcats. After that, SEC play begins with a game at Vanderbilt, so stacking these early wins against inferior competition would help Kentucky football finish with the best record possible.
A game against EKU is a true tune-up for UK. The Colonels are an FCS team, which is one level down from FBS, but still in Division I. Last week, they fell to Cincinnati, 66-13. There’s no reason Kentucky can’t do the same.
While games like this might not give off the best impression of a team, they do give players an opportunity to get game reps who otherwise might not see the field against stronger competition. It also helps build confidence, before the always-challenging SEC football slate begins.
