Take them seriously:

  • No. 7 – Kentucky Wildcats (1-0)

We start up the next tier with Kentucky football! The Wildcats started 1-0 with a blowout win, but unlike other SEC teams, actually did it against an FBS opponent. Sure, a win over Ball State isn’t anything to brag about, but a 30-point win over a MAC team is certainly more impressive than Missouri’s 25-point win over an FCS school. This week, you can make all the jokes you want, as Kentucky football will play an FCS team in Eastern Kentucky. But until then, the jokes are off.

  • No. 6 – Texas A&M Aggies (1-0)

Is Bobby Petrino the answer at offensive coordinator in College Station? The Aggies destroyed New Mexico in week 1, 52-10. That included a 28-point second quarter and barely over 200 offensive yards allowed to the Lobos. Petrino and Fisher are quite the duo at Texas A&M, but so far, it’s working.

  • No. 5 – LSU Tigers (0-1)

Sure, LSU began the season in the top 10 of the AP Poll and opened up with another top 10 team in Florida State. But not only did the Tigers lose that game, they also didn’t look too great. The 45-24 loss exposed holes in the defense, and didn’t show much promise in the offense. The Tigers should be favored to win each of their next three games, before a tilt at Ole Miss. That could wind up deciding their season’s fate.

  • No. 4 – Ole Miss Rebels (1-0)

Okay, it’s Mercer. If I’m being fair, I have to talk about Ole Miss beating up on an FCS team. But they did so with no remorse, winning 73-7. The Rebels had two separate 28-point quarters and held up in the fourth quarter, or else 80+ points wasn’t off the table. Two quarterbacks passed for 125+ yards in the win and potentially gives this offense a lot of confidence heading into Tulane this week.
