Kentucky football returns on Sept. 2, so to get you ready for the season, we’re introducing you to the freshmen on the Wildcats.

Anthony Brown is one of many freshmen to make the Kentucky football roster for 2023. This year’s incoming class is one of the best in the country, with 247Sports ranking it 30th.

A 5-foot-10 wide receiver, Brown was ranked a 4-star prospect by 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals. He chose to play for Kentucky football over offers from Michigan, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, among others.

Brown played high school football in Ohio, where he was one of the top receivers in his junior and senior seasons. As a junior, Brown racked up 822 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, earning honorable mention All-Ohio. His senior season was one for the record books, compiling 83 receptions, for 1,626 yards, and 20 touchdowns. The TD mark was the most in the All-Greater Western Ohio Conference.

Brown’s play led the Springfield Wildcats to a 13-2 overall record, finishing runner-up in the state championship game. Despite the loss, Brown performed well, hauling in 6 catches for 106 yards and a TD. His team won the GWOC championship, going 6-1 in the conference.

Kentucky football already has a deep group at wide receiver, but Anthony Brown could be used on kickoff and punt returns.

It’s important to note that there won’t be a lot of playing time within the offense in Brown’s first year as a Kentucky Wildcats. However, he was also a skilled special teams player in high school, where he could be used as a freshman.

In his senior year, Brown led his conference with 8 kick returns that went for 215 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 15 punts for 249 yards.

Brown’s skills on punt returns could be pivotal. In 2022, the Wildcats ranked second to last in the SEC in punt return average, at only 4.45 yards.

Oh, and how about a cool fact! Brown is actually the nephew of John Legend. I’m not sure if there are any other college football players in the country that can top that!
