Successful college football quarterbacks usually have at least one wide receiver who can change the game. At NC State, Leary had Emezie. With Kentucky football, Leary will have an array of talented wideouts.
Last season, the Wildcats had major contributions from a handful of playmakers. Barion Brown, Tayvion Robinson, Dane Key, and tight end Jordan Dingle all caught at least 20 passes. All four are back in 2023, leaving Leary with one of the most experienced pass-catching groups in the country.
I’m sure that went into Leary’s decision to come to Kentucky, but it can’t be overstated. Having veterans in college football goes a long way toward determining how successful a team will be. In Kentucky’s case, they’ve got vets all around the board, both in the pocket and down the field.
But it doesn’t stop there!
Kentucky’s top-rated freshman by 247Sports is WR Shamar Porter. Although he will have to beat out some really good competition to earn playing time, it’s worth noting that Porter is 6-foot-3 and can go over the top of most defensive backs.
Four-star tight end Khamari Anderson and three-star WRs Anthony Brown and Ardell Banks could also be in the mix for some sparse playing time, adding to the depth Leary has in his arsenal.
Of course, the Wildcats will still be in for a challenging schedule. That’s just how life is in the SEC. But with an offense that can be this explosive under Devin Leary, 10 wins is more than possible.
