Kentucky basketball added another piece to its incredible freshman class. Jordan Burks might be the best scorer of the bunch.

Kentucky basketball hasn’t had much success in the transfer portal, but the same can’t be said about adding talented freshmen. The Wildcats picked up a sixth addition to its 2023 class, adding former Ole Miss commit Jordan Burks.

Burks, who visited Kentucky last week, was arguably the best player left in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He’s also one of the best scorers. Burks led the Overtime Elite league in scoring at 27.1 PPG, with a season-high of 42 points. The league featured some of the best high-school players, including projected lottery picks Amen and Ausar Thompson.

Burks will now team up with fellow freshmen Aaron Bradshaw, DJ Wagner, Robert Dillingham, Justin Edwards, and Reed Sheppard. Kentucky basketball is listed as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, and Burks makes it that much better.

Burks’ reason for picking Kentucky basketball is simple

Burks gave a fairly easy answer for why he chose the Wildcats, with winning a championship as the core reason.

“I wanted to play with the top players in the country at the top basketball school in the country and develop my game under Coach Calipari, while working every day to win the national championship,” Burks said.

While Burks isn’t from Kentucky, he said he grew up watching the Wildcats on television.

“I’ve always been big on Kentucky because of the atmosphere and the culture,” Burks said. “I’ve been watching since I was a kid and seeing all of the players develop and progress into pros and compete for titles every year made this a place I wanted to play at.

Now, Burks will be next in line to learn from John Calipari. His new head coach had a lot of great things to say about his game, which he believes is much more than just scoring the basketball.

“Jordan has good size and has the ability to be a prolific scorer,” Calipari said. “His length allows him to play multiple positions, be dynamic in the open court, rebound at both ends and he can put it on the floor and score in a variety of ways.

Calipari also talked about Burks’ toughness and upside, two things Big Blue Nation will always appreciate.

The 6-foot-9 Burks is rated a three-star prospect but shows the potential to outperform those ratings.
