November 21st, 2009. That was the last time the Kentucky football team defeated the Georiga Bulldogs. Since then, it has more or less been the Bulldogs throttling the Wildcats in each meeting.
However, on one magical day between the hedges, Wildcats QB Morgan Newton tossed 3 TDs, with Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke making electric play after electric play. The Cats took home the victory 34-27.
Tomorrow, the Cats will welcome the number one team in the country when the Bulldogs take Kroger Field. Yes, I know. It doesn’t look good. Still, I’ll watch my Cats try to pull off the impossible. While we wait for kick-off, let’s look back at what was happening in the world in 2009.
Nick Saban’s First Alabama National Championship
We didn’t know it yet, or maybe we did, but the birth of the Crimson Tide dynasty was witnessed in the 2009 college football season. Nick Saban would win his first National Championship with the Alabama football program.
In a game that most Texas fans you speak to would call “If Colt Mccoy played,” the Tide rolled Texas 37-21. Since that night, Saban has added 5 more titles to his infinity gauntlet. This year, it looks like college football Jesus will be watching the College Football Playoffs like the rest of us. At home.
Number 1 Song In The Country – “Fireflies” Owl City
Oh, boy! I don’t remember doing it, but I guess after the win over Georgia, my friends and I drove around smalltown USA jamming out to “Fireflies” by Owl City. You can pretend to hate the song, but let’s be serious, “You would not believe your eyes if ten million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep.” We allowed this song to become number one, and I don’t regret it.
The Premiere Of Jersey Shore
You know, the more things change, the more they stay the same. America was introduced to our favorite Italians from Jersey with MTV’s Jersey Shore premiere. I can smell the cologne from here. I’ll be right back. I know I have an Ed Hardy shirt somewhere.
2009. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. One thing is certain, Kentucky won a football game over the Georgia Bulldogs. I’m not saying it will happen on Saturday, but a guy can dream, can’t he? Maybe I’ll give Jersey Shore a re-watch.
