The Kentucky women’s basketball program is off to a scorching start to the 2022-23. After a tough test in their opening game of the season against Radford, the Cats have cruised past Morehead State and throttled Coastal Carolina on Sunday 79-53.

The team will now face one more test in Bellarmine on Thursday at Memorial Coliseum before taking the trip to the Bahamas to compete in the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship. Any chance we can get that tournament name shortened?

The Cats will take on the number 14th ranked team in the country in their first game in the Bahamas when they meet Virginia Tech. But before that, Kentucky must take care of business in Lexington. Let’s take a closer look at how they will do that.

The Benton & Walker Duo

Jada Walker and Robyn Benton have been the go-to Cats so far this season when the team is craving a bucket. The pair have combined for 89 pts already, with Benton shooting 47% from the field and Walker with a staggering 67%. (yeah, we round up.)

In their game on Sunday against Costal Carolina, Walker secured a double-double with 21 pts and 10 ast, as Benton finished with 19 pts and finished with 5 reb., which was good enough to tie for most rebounds for the time along with two other Cats.

Forcing Turnovers

The Wildcats have been like gnats at a barbecue this season when it comes to creating turnovers for the opposition. Kentucky has forced 79 turnovers on their opponents this season already. On Sunday, the Cats forced Coastal Carolina to turn the ball over 32 times.

The 79 turnovers have the Cats ninth in the country in overall turnovers forced by a team. This team does not care to steal your lunch money on Monday. Take your snack money on Thursday, and take your friend’s money in the same process. Lock up the Spauldings when the Cats are around.
