Kentucky football is back on the gridiron after fumbling and miskicking away a win against Ole Miss last week in Oxford and South Carolina may pay the price for that missed opportunity today in Lexington.

The No. 13 ranked Wildcats (4-1, 1-1) host South Carolina at Kroger Field for its first home Southeastern Conference game of 2022. The Wildcats have a league win over Florida and the lone loss to Ole Miss but are focused on beating Shane Beamer’s team for the second straight time. A win for the Cats would also be their fifth straight win over USC at home.

The biggest question though is will quarterback Will Levis be under center today. Rumors have swirled about him in a walking boot, not practicing and Mark Stoops would not elaborate this week on his availability.

Levis playing greatly enhances Kentucky’s odds of winning and I think winning big. Should he not play or be limited they will need backup redshirt freshman Kaiya Sheron stepping in to start and sophomore Deuce Hogan would be his backup.

Regardless of who is calling the plays, it will be Chris Rodriguez carrying the Wildcats anyway in his second game back from being suspended the first four games of the year. C-Rod loves to run against the Gamecocks and I’d expect him to get the ball as much as 30 times today.

He needs just 81 yards rushing to pass Mark Higgs for fifth on the UK career rushing yards list.

If Levis plays he needs just three touchdown passes to move into fifth all-time at UK.

Brad White’s defense will be in the backfield and face of Spencer Rattler applying the pressure and the secondary has 29 interceptions since 2020, good for third-best in the SEC over that span.

Will Barion Brown break another long kick for a touchdown his 47.7-yard average of kick returns is the best in the nation?  I think there will be more highlight reel material from him as well.

Kentucky football vs South Carolina Weather

A perfect day in Lexington watching racing at Keeneland in the upper 50s, head to Kroger Field for a 7:30 kickoff under the lights with crystal clear skies. Football in the Bluegrass doesn’t get much better than this.

We did start off the morning with a freeze and frost but temps are climbing and at kickoff, it should be about 53 degrees.  However, temps will fall to the lower 40s by halftime and not a flutter of a breeze is expected.

A juiced-up crowd should provide some extra electricity in the air hopefully.

Kentucky football vs South Carolina Odds and Betting Pick Week 6

Current odds have Kentucky as a 5.5-point favorite on Fanduel today and has dropped twice this week after starting in double digits. This is probably due to the uncertainty of whether Levis will play or not and how much. It has fallen a point since Friday. The matchup has an over/under of 46.5 points. The Moneyline has Kentucky -230 and the Gamecocks +188.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.

Just the facts, please.

• Kentucky has won 7 of the past 8 meetings against South Carolina after the Gamecocks owned the series from 2000 until Mark Stoops arrived.

South Carolina leads the all-time series 18-14-1 and has the edge in Lexington 9-8.
•  UK won last season in Columbia, 16-10.
• In Kentucky’s win streaks of late four of the seven wins were decided by seven points or less.
• During that eight-game stretch, Kentucky has combined for 199 points compared to South Carolina’s 145 points.
• Kentucky has a two-game winning streak against South Carolina overall but owns a four-game winning streak in Lexington. UK’s last win was a 41-18 rout in 2020.

So what is our prediction?

Final score – Kentucky 28, South Carolina 17
