The calendar flips to October today and what better way to kick things off than a clash of top 11 ranked Southeastern Conference unbeaten foes as the Kentucky football team ventures to Oxford, MS for the first time in 12 years looking for conference win No. 2.

Despite the visiting Wildcats being ranked higher at No. 7 in the AP and No. 8 in the coach’s poll it’s the host and No. 11 ranked Rebels are almost a touchdown favorite. It’s an early kickoff set for Noon EST on ESPN.

It will be the high-octane running style offense from Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffen up against the defensive-minded Mark Stoops and his Kentucky defense that has been this team’s constant and steady performer.

Ole Miss averages 280 yards rushing and quarterback Jaxson Dart averages 207 yards passing. However, Kentucky will counter and has only allowed an average of 108 yards rushing per game and just 168 yards through the air.

This game very well could come down to which team has the ball on the final drive of the game. Will it be Dart at Ole Miss or Will Levis for Kentucky leading their respective teams downfield for the winning drive?

If it’s Levis I like Kentucky’s chances solely based on a more rounded play both getting it to his receivers and a solid running game.

Kentucky also welcomes back Chris Rodriguez back for the first time this season and he surely is looking to make an instant impact in the backfield. He brings a career of 2,740 yards rushing to the Kentucky offense that has surely missed him.

Kentucky football vs Ole Miss Injury report

Outside linebacker JJ Weaver suffered an upper-body injury two weeks ago and is listed week-to-week but is doubtful for today’s game. He is expected back next week.

Kentucky has running back JuThan McClain back which should bolster the running game.

Kentucky football vs Ole Miss Weather

The weather in Oxford could not be more perfect on the first day of October, especially with an 11 am CDT kickoff. For those doing a little breakfast tailgating in The Grove before kickoff, the temperature at 7 am sunrise is a chilly 47 degrees but will warm quickly. By kickoff expect plenty of sunshine and 68 degrees.

Look for temperatures to be closing in on 75 degrees as the game hits the fourth quarter. Winds could play a factor expected to stay about 9 mph throughout. For up-to-date hour-by-hour conditions, you can follow along here.
