The Kentucky football team will be looking to grab their second road SEC victory of the season when they travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. The matchup of the two teams isn’t a yearly event. It has been since 2020 since the two shared the field. Let’s take a closer look at the history between the Wildcats and the Rebels.
Kentucky and Ole Miss may not play every season; however, the matchup goes all the way back to the 1940s. The first recorded matchup of the Wildcats and Rebels took place in 1944, and as we all know, Kentucky brought home the win in convincing fashion, 27-7.
The Wildcats may have gotten the first win, but the Rebels own the overall series record of 28-14-1. The Rebels also hold the longest winning streak in the matchup, which sits at eight in a row from 1956 to 1963.
In more recent years, it has still been the Rebels who own the matchup with Kentucky. Since 2000, Ole Miss has won six of eight against the Wildcats, riding a current two-game winning streak in the series.
This weekend may be the most electric atmosphere this matchup has ever seen, as both teams will be ranked in the Top 15, per the AP and Coaches Poll. History isn’t on the side of the Wildcats. Aside from not having much luck against Ole Miss, the Rebels also currently own a 12-game home winning streak. But don’t count out this Kentucky football team. ‘Til the battle is won.
