Next back up its go time and Smoke and Wright need to show up and shine

Next man up is the theme of the Kentucky football running back room at the moment and this is the week they have to show up and produce. Kavoisey Smoke and La’Vell Wright that’s your queue.

We knew before the season the starter Chris Rodriguez would miss the Miami game due to a DUI suspension and possibly an unknown number of subsequent games due to an unrelated issue we don’t know the details about or the severity of it.

Ramone Jefferson transferred in to help fill that expected gap but apparently has torn his ACL in the Miami game and the senior is out for the season more than likely.

That means that preseason No. 2  back Kavoisey Smoke and No. 4 La’Vell Wright your names have been called and you are the next two up.

Smoke has it in him but at times seems the senior’s drive and finishing of runs go AWOL and that can’t happen this week.

There are high hopes for Wright and he was fun to watch at North Hardin as a very versatile back who as a four-year starter rushed for 4,396 yards and 56 touchdowns while showing he can catch and run with 1,260 receiving yards and six receiving touchdown. He was voted Class 6A Player of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

This would be quite the stage for the young freshman to make his mark to kick off his Wildcat career.
