The defense was very efficient after surrendering the first-drive touchdown

The defense was supposed to be solid coming into the season and honesty after this game there isn’t that much concern. It is game one and Miami moved the ball with short dink passes and ball control.

Miami finished with 290 yards but a combined 265 yards on nine drives came after that opening one. The end result was five punts, two field goals, one fumble, and on downs on the final drive.

Are there a lot of things for Brad White’s defense to improve on – sure? But it is week one and I think he will be pleased enough.

They racked up four tackles for loss, three sacks, broke up four passes and forced two fumbles.

We had heard Stoops praise freshman Alex Afari Jr. for his work and he brought that to the game with six tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three for a loss. Keidron Smith had four tackles and recovered a fumble.

De’Andre Square led the Cats with seven tackles.

This squad will be able to hold their own in the Swamp next week and cause problems for the Gators they just need the offense to do their part.
