Wildcats continue winning ways over South Carolina in Cats SEC home opener

Venue: Kroger Field
City: Lexington, KY
Overall Matchup Record: South Carolina leads 18-14-1
Last meeting: Kentucky won 16-10  in 2021

As we reach the halfway point in the season Kentucky could very well be a top 10 ranked team and unbeaten or if things go terribly wrong 3-2 with losses to Florida and Ole Miss. The Wildcats should be unbeaten, but that rests solely on their shoulders as they are more than capable of beating all of those teams.

The same goes for week No. 6 with Shane Beamer coming to Lexington in his second season.

Since 1998 these two SEC teams have duked it out with the Gamecocks winning 10 straight from 2000-2010 but Kentucky winning 7 of the past 8 games the lone loss 24-7 in 2019. The average points put up by the winning team are usually in the mid 20’s.

I wouldn’t predict 2022 to be any different with Spencer Rattler, who transferred in from Oklahoma, and Levis mastering ways to win this one.

Brad White’s defense will need to make a late-game stand to preserve this win and Kentucky will have to force some takeaways.

South Carolina is expected to duplicate its six-win total from last year, but just like Kentucky they too need to notch that extra SEC win to displace a team on the very tight SEC East ladder.

It won’t be easy or pretty but Kentucky should prevail 27-21 and are 6-0.
