When Kentucky basketball stalls it’s TyTy Washington who has the octane

Far and away there is no one who makes this Kentucky basketball hum then when TyTy Washington pours some fuel on the Wildcat offense and lights the intensity.

He did it again against South Carolina.

Sitting much of the first half with two fouls you can watch him registering everything that is going on in front of him on the court. He waits his turn and then it’s go-time.

With Sahvir Wheeler unable to score baskets the scoring from the guard position must go through the freshman from Phoenix, AZ.

It’s not always the points he rings up but he just seizes the moment at the right time when Kentucky needs him and he delivers. Whether is scoring 14 points like he did or going in and fighting for rebounds like the three he snared as well.

When South Carolina completed a 15-4 run that spanned the end of the first and start of the second half to finally tie the game 43-43 with 16:04 left, it was Washington who stuffed out the match that could have sent Kentucky’s game up in flames.

Instead, the 6-foot-3, 197-pounder  was poised and with a basket and and-one make followed with a sweet pass and alley-oop throw down by Brooks.

He notched a pair of back-to-back baskets late in the half to bolster the UK lead back up to 74-63 with just over 4 minutes to play. That is what a true leader does. Lead when they need him.

The Gamecocks would not tie or ever lead after that.

He was selected by Tom Leach and Mike Pratt to go on the UK Radio Network after the game and when asked about the home stretch.

"“Down the stretch, my teammates were telling me ‘You’re the guy, just keep shooting,”"

Thank good he keeps on shooting.
