Kentucky Football vs Louisville today: injury report, schedule, live Stream, TV channel and betting preview for Week 13 game
By Eric Thorne
It’s Rivalry Game Day. Cats vs Cards. Blue vs Red. L’s down. It all comes down to the final regular-season football game with Kentucky football traveling down 1-64 to battle Louisville for the Governor’s Cup in a game with huge stakes on the line for both.
Kentucky (8-3) has long been bowl eligible after reeling off six straight wins to open the regular season, lost three straight, and has now reeled off two straight wins against Vanderbilt and New Mexico State. They are still hopeful at a New Year’s Day Six game but that seems unlikely. However, a big-time game such as the Outback or Citrus is still in play especially if they finish 9-3.
Louisville (6-5) dropped its opener to Ole Miss, won three, lost four of five, and has routed Syracuse and Duke to make them bowl eligible. Their destination fate has a lot of factors that have to play out on Saturday.
The game was not played last year due to Covid, but the Wildcats have won the last two games and three of the last four. In Cardinal Stadium the Big Blue routed the Cards 56-10 in 2018 and pulled a stunning 41-38 upset of 11th-ranked Louisville who was led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson in 2016.
The Wildcats lead the series 17-15 but Louisville won five straight prior to Kentucky winning the past two. The series wins seem to come in clumps as prior to Louisville’s winning streak, UK had claimed the previous four from 2007-2010 and the Cards won the four prior.
When the teams have met in Louisville the Wildcats are 8-5.
Kentucky currently holds college football’s second-longest active win streak against non-conference foes sitting at 15 games, which is the second-longest active streak in the country. Their last regular-season loss was to UL in 2017 and followed that with a loss to Northwestern in the Music City Bowl.
Should they notch nine wins it would be just the second time since 1977 with the other in 2018.
The quarterback battle should be a dandy to watch.
Kentucky’s Will Levis has thrown for 2,444 yards with 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions averaging 222 yards a game.
Louisville’s Malik Cunningham has passed for 2,589 with 18 touchdowns and 5 picks averaging 235.4 yards a game.
Kentucky should have the edge in the running game and it’s time for Chris Rodriguez to hold onto the ball and run through and over the Cards defense and have that look in his eye because he is due to break one open for a long touchdown. On the year he has pounded out 1,151 yards and seven scores.
Oh and Wan’Dale Robinson is just itching to prove what a mistake it was Louisville to not recruit him. The Frankfort native has been bringing that up all week. He is among the leading receivers in the nation with 85 catches for 1,067 yards and six electrifying touchdowns.
Kentucky football vs Louisville Injury report
Coach Mark Stoops has been giving very little information on injuries this season simply saying “We’ll see” when asked in the media briefings.
Kentucky has seen the return of Marquan McCall and Josh Ali which definitely helped. There is hope that Jordan Wright could be back for the Wildcats which would help to really bolster the defense.
Kentucky football vs Louisville Odds and Betting Pick Week 13
WynnBET’s Week 13 odds have Kentucky as a +3.0 point underdog to Louisville. The matchup has an over/under of 57.5 points. The Moneyline has Kentucky +125 and the Cardinals minus -145. They have Kentucky scoring 27 points and Louisville 30.
Just the straight-up facts:
- Kentucky has 7 victories against the spread this season.
- Louisville has 6 wins against the spread this season.
- In head-to-head games, Kentucky leads 17-15
- In Lexington back in 2019, Kentucky won 45-13
- UK has covered the spread each time they have been a 3 point or more underdog
- The Cards have been favored by 3 or more four times and are 3-1
- Kentucky is 4-3 against the spread and 6-1 overall when putting up 24.7 points or more.
- When UL tallies 22.2 points or more, they are 6-3 against the spread and 6-4 overall.
- When Kentucky rolls up more than 391.8 yards, they are 4-2 against the spread and 5-1 overall.
- When UL’s offense racks up 335.7 yards or more, they are 6-4 against the spread and 6-5 overall.
Don’t expect any blowouts and in fact, this could be one of the all-time classic games between these two. Neither team nor fan base should feel overly confident looking through blue or red-colored glasses. Defenses are going to be tested on both sides, but the question is which can withstand the onslaught they are going to face.
This game will come to be an offensive tilt from the start. Ultimately it will come down to who wins the turnovers. Kentucky can’t turn it over, but if it does the defense has to even the tally. Something that has not happened much all year.
Cunningham and Levis are both huge risk takers and gamblers looking for that big home run play. Poor decisions have haunted both players in the past and in this game, the stakes are even higher to stay in control.
So what is our prediction?
