Friend our foe the Kentucky football team in essence controls its own destiny to where it finishes in the Southeastern Conference standings with four weeks remaining, but it sure would be nice to get a little help “from their friends.”

Kentucky (6-2, 4-2) has two remaining conference games while many of their SEC brethren has three remaining. The Wildcats host Tennessee (4-4, 2-3) on Saturday night and then head south to Vanderbilt in two weeks (2-7, 0-5).

On either side are non-conference games hosting New Mexico State (1-7) and at Louisville (4-4) in the regular-season finale.

Kentucky football hoping for some help getting SEC teams off their backs

The line on Tennessee at the Kentucky football game started with Kentucky as a 1 point favorite, went to 1.5, and now has settled as a pick-em game and the over/under sits at 57 points according to WynnBet.

Win and Big Blue should finish second in the SEC East, but lose and the already jumbled up middle of the pack SEC gets even more confusing as well and begs the question as to what went wrong after a 6-0 start to the UK season.

Other games this weekend include several that don’t make a ton of difference for UK, but the outcomes of each will determine who ends up where in the topsy-turvey post-season bowl picture.

Kentucky football was ranked No. 18 in the first College Football Playoff rankings released this week. As for their hopes of a New Year’s Day Six game that is also in their hands if they win out in impressive fashion and get some help along the way.

Let’s look at the rest of the slate in the SEC on Saturday to see the effects.
