Fast start, no clunkers, and stealing a win are keys to movin’ on up

So the mountain is there for Kentucky to climb into the Top 25, but it must ascend past the 10 teams ahead of them. The quest for the summit after that would be another 25 teams above them.

Slow and steady and at times pick up the pace and 2021 could be the year Kentucky football again scales its way back into the Top 25. If they can reach the Top 25 then a weaker backend schedule is favorable to climb higher.

But one wrong step and this team could tumble backward and off the mountain.

However, rest assured our fearless leader Mark Stoops will keep his players focused on the peak.

The base is an easy place to get a fast start with four easily winnable games this Kentucky team looks to be ready to break into the top 25 around week 5 when the Florida Gators come to Lexington.

Stoops hasn’t held back his excitement about this team and now with his starting quarterback Will Levis in place it’s go-time. The mountain awaits and the quest begins on September 4.

"“We’re excited. I know everybody says that this time of year,” Stoops said. “I’ve probably said that for nine straight years, but that’s the truth. I think this time of year you get through the spring, you get through the summer, the players are working exceptionally hard. We have changes, and the anticipation builds up. I’m as excited this year, as excited to get going right now as I was in year one. I feel really good about this team. I love our coaching staff. I feel like we’re in a really good place.”"

The time is now for this Kentucky team to step up. The teams mentioned above them are good but Kentucky should be better. There is no doubt this team can make its way into the Top 25. This could be a special season for the Wildcats but they must keep it in perspective. Win the ones they should win, don’t throw in a clunker as they traditionally do, and steal a victory – maybe two.

Every team wants into the upper echelon and be ranked but it’s how you handle the climb, and I believe this team is more than capable of charging past teams 26-34 and make a statement.
