Kentucky gets their first win in 12 years against Georgia.

Kentucky beat Georgia on the day I was born in 1988, since then the Wildcats have only been able to win four more times against the Dawgs in 32 years. Kentucky didn’t beat Georgia in the 2010’s decade for that matter either. Georgia has been another team that Kentucky just can’t seem to get over the hump against.

In 2020 Georgia was good, but Kentucky’s defense was good too. Kentucky held Georgia to their lowest scoring game all season long which honestly is quite impressive. Had the Wildcats not been totally inept on offense last year, it’s likely they could’ve started off this decade right with a win over the Dawgs.

If Kentucky ever wants to win the SEC East, they have to go through Georgia.

Georgia’s defense ranked second in the SEC in fewest points a game allowed (20) and first in yards per play at 4.86. Kentucky’s historically poor first down play selection has to change if it wants to move the ball against the Dawgs.

2021 could finally be the year. What has kept Georgia so dominant over Kentucky through the years has been in the trenches. Kentucky has made it a point to improve on the offensive and defensive fronts, and they have. Kentucky has finally in recent years put together an SEC caliber line on both sides of the ball.

Both of these teams will have played seven games without a week off, but both will get their byes after this. Georgia opens with Clemson but doesn’t play crossover games against Alabama, Texas A&M, or LSU.

If Kentucky’s defense can once again show up to play and keep the Bulldogs at bay, and the offense can put up some points the Wildcats finally will break another streak that needs to end.  With this instant classic win in Athens, it may take some years off of the lives of Kentucky fans. Kentucky wins in a shootout, 42-35, and improves to 6-1 while cracking the top 15.
