Kentucky makes it two in a row against the Volunteers.
The days of Tennessee dominating Kentucky are long gone, for now anyway. I don’t care what their fans say, Peyton Manning isn’t walking through the door any time soon, he’s long gone.
One of the most regrettable losses in the Stoops’ tenure without a doubt would be that 2018 game in Knoxville where Kentucky was actually favored by 3.5 points and much better than Tennesee. That’s why they play the games though, it all worked out for Kentucky, but an 11th win would’ve been all the more magical.
The state of Tennesee football is currently best described as a dumpster fire out behind a McDonald’s. The Vols fired Jeremy Pruitt after his third season in Knoxville, and the Vols are caught up in an NCAA recruiting scandal that also involved McDonald’s. I mean they were cheating, and still bad, that’s unbelievable but also strong proof of the pressure in Knoxville to return Tennesee Football back to its place on top of the throne of the SEC East. That’s not happening soon either.
Tennesee will look to avenge a 34-7 drubbing Kentucky gave them in 2020 on their own field, but sadly that quest will be only that… a quest. Look for Kentucky to be at least a 10-point favorite on game day, and I believe they cover that easily. If it weren’t for history and ghosts of times past Kentucky would probably be favored by more.
Tennesee went out and hired a new head coach in Josh Heupel from The University of Central Florida, and Vols fans aren’t really all that sold that he will be the coach to restore Rocky Top from the ashes and they’re probably right. He’s more than likely the guy who gets them on the right track to getting the next coach who may make Tennesee prominent again. However, 2021 won’t be his year.
The offensive attack will be at full speed and these players know what it means to be Kentucky and garner a win against their neighbors to the south. In a game that is never in doubt Kentucky silences Rocky Top 42-21 and at long last finally cracks the top 10 at 8-1.
