Kentucky Football just lost veteran safety Davonte Robinson for all of 2019. Who will step up in Robinson’s absence?
Injuries, man. They perpetually suck. Just when a great young man wearing Kentucky blue was about to step into the batter’s box as a starter for the Kentucky football program–which is coming off a ten-win season–and has his entire junior season yanked from him before it even begins. For Davonte Robinson, this is just the worst. The consequences for this season and beyond are severe and expansive for Robinson the football player. A year of veteran eligibility completely out the window, a long-worked-for starting spot on an SEC school eliminated like that.
So disappointing. For Robinson, the only thing he can do is tackle rehab with a positive attitude and intense focus to make sure he’s the best version of himself by 2020 when he’ll be a senior.
This injury, while extremely aggravating to Davonte, also uncovers a sizeable void in the Kentucky Wildcats defense, and more particularly, its secondary, which is recovering from massive turmoil anyways. The defensive backfield will be one of the youngest in the country and now will feature an extra child in the starting rotation.
Robinson, easily the most versatile and, quite frankly, the best DB on the team, will require replacement by committee. But who will comprise that committee and act as its chairman?
Here are three players I find most likely to fill the gap left by the untimely injury to Davonte Robinson:
