Kentucky Basketball center Isaac Humphries signs with Orlando Magic

Former Kentucky Basketball center Isaac Humphries has signed a preliminary contract with the Orlando Magic. Congrats to the big Aussie!
Let’s have a round of applause for Isaac Humphries, former Kentucky Basketball center, for furthering his NBA career by signing some strange contract called an “Exhibit 10” with the Orlando Magic. Humphries, a member of the Wildcats 2016 & 2017 teams, never seemed to find his niche in Lexington but that hasn’t stopped him from garnering a few contracts in the National Basketball Association.
While not a star, or heck, even an average rotation player at Kentucky, Humphries has created his own avenue of success at the professional level. After dominating in his home country of Australia in 2018, Humphries hopped the puddle back over to the United States in hopes of securing a spot on a G-League team. Last season, Humphries suited up for the Eerie BayHawks, a juggernaut G-League powerhouse (I have no clue if that’s true). The Australian seven-footer notched 11.3 points-per-game on 53.8% shooting from the field and finished the year with an eye-catching 34.9% shooting percentage from beyond the arc on 1.8 attempts-per-game. (For a modern big man, that’s a money-making stat).
That performance earned Isaac some floor time on the Atlanta Hawks in 2019 as he suited up for five games near the end of the season. This offseason, he landed another deal with the Orlando Magic called an “Exhibit 10,” according to Fox Sports. Essentially, this weird concoction of a contract allows guarantees Humphries a spot on the G-League team (a reunion with the BayHawks) and $50,000 should he spend at least 60 days with the BayHawks.
That’s the floor of his new deal. If Isaac arrives to training camp and starts dropping triple-doubles and shooting 85% from three, Orlando can assign him to the 15-man roster. Seeing as that scenario is incredibly unlikely, I’d assume Humphries will spend most of next season in the G-League with the possibility of being called up.
Whew. NBA contract gymnastics are no walk in the park to explain. And honestly, I’m not even sure if I explained it correctly myself. (At least I tried). In all seriousness, GO ISAAC! The BBN is always behind ya!
