Kentucky Football legend Josh Allen was selected to the SEC All-Decade First-Team by esteemed College Football magazine Lindy’s Sports
Sorry guys, Kentucky football can wait. I have a story to tell first. It ties into Josh Allen so don’t worry!
Sunday evening, my great aunt and uncle were in town from Indianapolis. This is always a considerable event. (My uncle Jo “Hobby” Gibbs actually played college ball and was a juggernaut in the post for Vanderbilt in the mid-fifties, averaging 12.3 points and 12.5 rebounds as a senior). Bagels and coffee were on tap for the next morning’s breakfast. A splendid morning spread. Except we were missing a crucial ingredient: cream cheese. Absolute crisis. Seeing that we had a dire situation in front of us, I hopped into my Jeep and flew down Taylorsville road en route to the closest Kroger to acquire the whipped bagel topping. Upon arrival, I spotted my friend Sam’s 1992 Chevy Silverado parked outside El Nopal. Of course, I stopped by for a quick chat and a few tortilla chips. But on my way out, some seven-year-old knuckle-head barreled through the glass door during a makeshift game of capture the flag. (I must say, I’ve taken part in very few games of capture the flag that took place in the lobby of a Mexican eatery). Still in a mild hurry, I evaded the expansive glass door shrapnel and scrambled to Kroger on the other side of the shopping center. Once in, I selected the finest cream cheese my mom’s 20 dollar bill could buy and wandered back to the register. But Lindy’s Sports Southeastern College Football Preview caught my eye on my way back. I thumbed through a few dozen pages and decided it was a worthwhile purchase (it proved to be just that). With cream cheese and the football magazine in hand, I made my way to the counter. But there was yet another interruption. This time, Dr. Seuss’s Oh the Places You’ll Go snagged my attention. I read the whole thing. “Kid, you’ll move mountains!” I hope someone read that line to Josh Allen when he arrived at Kentucky as a two-star recruit. The mountains he moved earned him a spot on Lindy’s Sports SEC All-Decade First-Team.
You heard that correctly. Josh Allen was selected First-Team All-Decade in the SEC. Kentucky Football, as you may have heard, generally fails to produce the talent of an Alabama or LSU or Texas A&M or Florida or essentially anywhere within the SEC. It’s the conference defined by legendary defensive linemen. Jarvis Jones, Rueben Foster, Devin White, heroes for Georgia, Alabama, and LSU, take a step back. We’re rolling out Josh Allen’s red carpet. Sorry, First-Team All-Decade only.
Just keep the awards coming for the greatest defensive player in Kentucky Football history.
