Podcast: Kentucky Basketball recruiting & AAU hoops
By Alex Weber
On the latest edition of the Two Man Game Podcast, Alex Weber and Kenny Fehr talk some Kentucky Basketball recruiting and AAU systemic flaws.
Traditionally, late July is penciled in as the “talking season” for college football, whatever that even means. To me, it signifies the SEC Media is ready to come out of the woodwork and hand out a syllabus of sure-to-be-terrible predictions. That already happened, and I complained about it, A LOT. (Check that out to see where the Cats were slotted by the SEC talking heads for this upcoming season). As far as I’m concerned, this is recruiting season for Kentucky Basketball. I see the views this website gets on basketball recruiting pieces compared to football. The gap is remarkable. Don’t let SEC Media Days fool you. Right now, in Kentucky, basketball reigns supreme.
So that’s what my colleague Kenny Fehr and I discussed on this week’s episode of the Two Man Game Podcast. We selected our favorites from the upcoming 2020 class and reviewed at length each of the guys John Calipari is chasing. If you’re interested, here are the players we took a look at:
- Jalen Green
- BJ Boston
- Isaiah Todd
- N’Faly Dante
- Scottie Barnes
- Josh Christopher
- Evan Mobley
- Cade Cunningham
- Emoni Bates
- Sharife Cooper
- Jalen Johnson
- Makur Maker
After some in-depth recruiting analysis, we addressed the growing issues within the wretched AAU system. It’s a corrupt business empire built by children’s basketball, solely intended to pay the coaches, shoe companies, and managers filthy profits. Some players survive to college but even then the overwhelming number of games these kids are playing at young ages is grinding down their bodies to a point of no return in some cases.
Check out our recruiting talk, discussion on AAU, and we riff on Westbrook’s move to Houston to team up with James Harden. You can listen here (down below), on Apple Podcasts, Anchor, Spotify, or any place you download podcasts!
