3 Reasons Why Anthony Davis is Perfect Next to LeBron James
By Alex Weber
No Ego
If there was a knock on Anthony Davis with the Pelicans, it’s that he wasn’t an alpha; an unquestioned leader on and off the court. He was brilliant during the games but he wasn’t an overzealous character in post-game interviews and he rarely appeared in news articles for anything besides his basketball-oriented accomplishments. Heck, we love him here in Kentucky but does anyone really have a feel for Anthony the person? I sure don’t. He’s more mystery than maniac at least, which is more than Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving can claim.
However, next to LeBron–an enormous international brand and personal news cycle–Davis can lurk in the shadows and ball. I can guarantee you one thing with Davis: he won’t induce public spats with teammates. He’s not going to call his superstar running mate, role players, or coaches out for team failures. He handles business like that in-house. LeBron is a whole another story and so are some of his former co-stars. James experienced varying rifts with Kyrie Irving and Dwayne Wade when they played together, and one could argue the lack of definition within the team and especially between LeBron and Irving or Wade cost him a title or two.
With Anthony Davis, LeBron has a counterpart who is unselfish, winning-oriented, and will cause zero issues off the court. Anthony Davis really is the perfect player to build a team around. He can score 35 in nine straight games if necessary and he doesn’t need the ball, like, ever. Plus, he’s an elite defender and is seemingly yet to reach his prime. He is one of the five most valuable players in the NBA and I’m so excited for him to recall those powers this coming fall.
