UK football: Top 5 NFL Draft picks from the past 20 years
By Drew Koch
Alvin ‘Bud’ Dupree was a monster for Mark Stoops’ defense. Under Joker Phillips, in his first two seasons on the UK football team, Dupree notched 9 sacks. Upon Stoops’ arrival in 2013, Dupree was switched from linebacker to defensive end, and Dupree flourished. Dupree recorded 16.5 sacks in his final two seasons at Kentucky.
At 6’4″, 260-pounds, Dupree was a perfect fit for a 3-4 defense in today’s NFL. The league craves speed off the edge, and Dupree definitely brings that. With the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Bud Dupree.
Dupree began his career with the Steelers as a situational pass-rusher. In his rookie season, Dupree saw action in all 16 games, and started 5. Dupree logged 4 sacks during his rookie campaign.
In his first three seasons with the Steelers, Dupree’s totaled 90 tackles and 14.5 sacks. Dupree could easily work his way up on this list, but for now, No. 4 seemed like a fair spot for the former All-SEC performer.
