UK football: Will Kentucky use two quarterbacks this season?

The UK football team played the Blue and White Spring Game last night. We’re a ways away from the opener in September, but will BBN see a winner emerge from the quarterback competition or will we see two QB’s alternating snaps?
The UK football team played the Blue and White Spring Game last night. Quarterbacks Gunnar Hoak and Terry Wilson split snaps with the offense. We’re a ways away from the opener in September, but will BBN see a winner emerge from the quarterback competition or will we see two QB’s alternating snaps?
Gunnar Hoak started the scrimmage with the first-team offense. He finished 14-of-25 for 121 yards with a touchdown. Touchdown Terry Wilson was 10-of-24 passing with an interception. Neither player lit it up, but there were no major struggles either.
Hoak gives head coach Mark Stoops some form of reliablilty. Though he’s yet to play in an actual game, Hoak is more familiar with offensive coordinator Eddie Gran’s system. Hoak is a prototypical pocket passer.
Terry Wilson gives Mark Stoops something Hoak doesn’t, speed. Wilson is much more mobile than Hoak. While Hoak is the more accurate passer, Wilson is a much bigger threat with his legs and will excel in Gran’s run-pass offense.
I personally am not a fan of alternating quarterbacks, but several college football teams employ that method of running their offenses. Heck, look what Alabama did in the National Championship game last year.
This quarterback competition is likely to come down to the wire. Stoops showed before that he’s amenable to playing two different quarterbacks during a game. We saw it with Drew Barker and Stephen Johnson.
So while a winner of the QB competition may be declared later this offseason, don’t be surprised to see both Terry Wilson and Gunnar Hoak splitting snaps in a regular-season game for the UK football team this coning season.
