Big Blue Nation has been blessed at the breakfast table in recent days. The past two mornings have seen E.J. Montgomery and Ashton Hagans commit to play for UK. Hagans will be the next, in a long line of favorites for the Kentucky basketball fan base.

Big Blue Nation has woke up to pleasant news the past two days. On Monday morning, news broke about E.J. Montgomery committing to play for the Cats in 2018. Earlier today, Ashton Hagans, the No.1 rated point guard in the Class of 2019 committed to play for Coach Calipari and the Wildcats. Hagans will be the latest, in a long line of former UK players, that Big Blue Nation is going to love.

Ashton Hagans is a 5-star point guard from Georgia. Hagans previously committed to play for his home state Georgia Bulldogs. However, head coach Mark Fox was fired and Hagans re-opened his search to find the right fit. Today he signed with UK.

According to 24/7 Sports, Hagans is the 8th-ranked player in the Class of 2019 and the No.1 ranked point guard in the class. Coach Cal and the Wildcats received a commitment last month from another 2019 recruit, forward D.J. Jeffries. Jeffries is a 4-star prospect and ranks No. 26 in the class according to 24/7 Sports.

The Wildcats are also in hot pursuit of another top talent in the Class of 2019, the No. 1 overall player in the class, James Wiseman. The Memphis native is thought to have the Wildcats at the top of his list, but with Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway now coaching the Memphis Tigers, there’s a chance UK might miss out on Wiseman’s services.

Ashton Hagans, who’s blog The Next Step is featured in USA Today Sports, explained that BBN was a big reason he chose to play for Coach Cal and Kentucky. According to his blog, Hagans says that, “I want to start out by giving BBN a shoutout and everyone that supported me throughout this process…Man! BBN is the best fan base period! They show so much love it’s crazy. I had to turn my phone off earlier today because it was going so crazy.”

The Kentucky basketball program has had its fair share of top notch point guards come through Rupp Arena since John Calipari took over. Hagans might be the next, in a long line of talented guards.

There is still the possibility that Hagans reclassifies for next year’s class. A backcourt of Hagans, Quade Green, Immanuel Quickley and Tyler Herro would be a nightmare for opposing teams. Add to that the possible frontcourt of Wenyen Gabriel, E.J. Montgomery, PJ Washington, Jarred Vanderbilt and Nick Richards. Wow!
