The Kentucky basketball team defeated Davidson 78-73 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It’s time for my 5 “Rushed Reactions”.

You know how it works, BBN. Kentucky plays and I give you my 5 “Rushed Reactions” afterward. No consulting box scores, no watching post-game interviews; just my immediate reactions. In this year’s first NCAA Tournament game for the Kentucky basketball team, the Cats were victorious 78-73 against Davidson. Let’s do it!

1. The three-Point streak ends

The Wildcats’ streak of 1,047 consecutive games with a made three-point shot came to an end tonight against Davidson. Kentucky’s three-point shooting was non-existent tonight. Preseason reports often criticized the perimeter shooting of this Kentucky team. Throughout the season, the Kentucky basketball team struggled to consistently knock down perimeter shots.

Quade Green, Kevin Knox, Wenyen Gabriel and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have all shown they can get hot from deep. Against Davidson, the Cats really struggled to knock down outside shots. Coach John Calipari’s game plan was definitely clear though; attack the basket.

Calipari wanted the Cats using their size, length and athleticism to attack the rim. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Hamidou Diallo, Knox, Gabriel and the rest of the team failed to hit a three-point shot.
