Kentucky basketball: UK not the only SEC team that will make a deep run
By Drew Koch
Tennessee Volunteers
I’m not the only one who thinks Kentucky is going to meet Tennessee in the South Regional Final, right? I’m serious, I think the Vols are that good. Rick Barnes has his team playing at an elite level and he deserves to be National Coach of the Year.
The Vols are for real and possess everything you need for a deep run in March. They have good size, excellent guard play, an interior presence, solid three-point shooting and a good coach. This team can go a long way in the tournament.
As a Kentucky basketball fan, I kind of cringed when I saw Tennessee in the South Region. The Vols open against Wright State, who they should dispatch quickly. Then they take on the winner of Loyola-Chicago and Miami. I don’ either of those teams pose a threat to the Volunteers.

Honestly, I don’t think Tennessee will struggle in any match up they have in the South Region until the Elite Eight. With that, the Vols can obviously beat Kentucky, in fact they did it twice. It’s okay Big Blue Nation, we won the big one last weekend. Tennessee can play the slow down style of Virginia as well. The only team that they would struggle mightily against is Arizona. Deandre Ayton is a match up nightmare for every team in the tournament.
In my opinion, Tennessee has the best chance of all the SEC teams to make the Final Four. Rick Barnes has done an amazing job this season, and aside from Yante Maten, Grant Williams was the best player in the SEC. The Vols are a serious threat to cut down the nets, not just in Atlanta, but San Antonio as well.
