Kentucky basketball: Game preview, 3 keys vs Florida
By Drew Koch
Kentucky’s offense vs Florida’s defense
This is the classic illustration of the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object. The Kentucky basketball team ranks No. 3 in SEC in scoring at 73.9 points per game. The Florida Gators are No. 1 points allowed per game, holding opponents to 66.4 points per game. Something’s got to give.
The Gators’ D is tough as nails. Kevarrius Hayes is averaging over 2 blocks per game and we’ve already addressed the pesky defense of Chris Chiozza. Florida has defenders out top and down low. This is going to be a physical game for the Kentucky basketball team. The Wildcats need to attack the basket and get to the free throw line.
The Cats have been on a tear of late, scoring over 80 points in their last 4 games. All 4 games have resulted in big wins for UK, and the Wildcats dropped 96 points most recently against Ole Miss at home on Wednesday night. Kentucky’s offense is peaking at the right time.
Florida is only scoring 70.4 points per game. That’s 10th best in the SEC. The last time Florida scored more than 80 points in a conference was January 17th against Arkansas. If this is a high-scoring game, I think Kentucky runs Florida out of their own gym.
