Kentucky basketball: News and notes from Wildcat Blue Nation
By Drew Koch
The Kentucky basketball team is riding a 3-game winning streak. Check out this week’s news and notes from Wildcat Blue Nation.
After losing 4 straight games, the Kentucky basketball team is on a 3-game winning streak. This is the only 3-game winning streak the Cats have had in conference play this season. The Wildcats’ 87-66 win over Missouri on Saturday put them in prime position to lock up the No. 3 seed for the SEC Tournament. Check out this week’s news and notes from Wildcat Blue Nation.
Next game
The Kentucky Wildcats play their final home game of the season against Ole Miss on Wednesday night, February 28th at 7:00. Check back with Wildcat Blue Nation tomorrow for the game preview and 3 keys to victory for the Wildcats.
At 9-7 in the SEC, the Wildcats are tied for third place with Mississippi State, Arkansas and Florida. If Kentucky takes care of business on Wednesday night, then Saturday’s game against Florida is essentially for the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament. That is assuming that Florida beats Alabama Tuesday night.
Freshman of the Week
Kentucky basketball’s Jarred Vanderbilt was named the SEC Freshman of the Week. Vanderbilt scored a career-high 11 points in his game against Arkansas last week. He followed that up that performance with another 11-point outing against Mizzou on Saturday night.
More impressive than his point total, was Vanderbilt’s rebounding. In two games Vanderbilt grabbed 24 rebounds, 9 of which were on the offensive side of the ball. Vanderbilt’s double-double (11 points and 15 rebounds) on Saturday in Rupp Arena was his first of the season.
Kentucky basketball is back in the Top 25
The AP Top 25 came out on Monday, and the Kentucky basketball team is back. The Cats rank No. 23. Kentucky is just ahead of Middle Tennessee, who stayed put at No. 24. UK joins Auburn (No. 14) and Tennessee (No. 16) as the only SEC teams ranked this week.
