Kentucky basketball: Game preview, 3 keys vs Aggies
By Drew Koch
2. The Aggies’ size will bother the Cats
This is a ‘prove it’ game for the Kentucky basketball team. John Calipari has been effusive in his request for the Cats to show toughness. Saturday in College Station will be an opportunity for the Cats to show just how tough they are.
What the Aggies lack in perimeter shooting, they more than make up for in size. Texas A&M leads the SEC in rebounding and are 9th in the nation in that category. Tyler Davis and Robert Williams, both over 6’9″, are capable of a double-double every night.
The Wildcats outrebounded the Aggies in their previous match up, and they will need to do it again to have any shot on Saturday night. On the season, Texas A&M is averaging over 41 rebounds per game. Against the Wildcats back in January, they grabbed only 27.
How do the Wildcats repeat that performance on Saturday? It’s easy, take GOOD shots. In their last game against the Aggies, Kentucky shot 56% from the field and took only 12 three-pointers. That is the recipe for a Wildcat victory. Effective interior scoring and limiting their perimeter game to under 15 shots will help the Cats emerge victorious.
