Mark Stoops and the UK football program landed a big recruit just weeks before National Signing Day.

Head coach Mark Stoops and the UK football program secured a big recruit, and I mean big. Nick Lewis, the 6’9″, 348 pound offensive lineman decommited from Washington State and has signed on to play with the Wildcats.

Lewis is a monster of a man. At 6’9″, only defensive tackle Calvin Taylor Jr. can stand eye-to-eye with Lewis. Lewis, from The Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports.com and Rivals.com.

Recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow strikes again. This time he plucked Lewis from the firm grasp of Mike Leech and the Washington State Cougars. Back in October of 2017, Lewis committed to the Cougars. However, Lewis made an official visit to the Cincinnati Bearcats in December, a signal that perhaps he was not 100% committed to the Pacific Northwest. On January 19, the mammoth prospect made an official visit to UK and 3 days later Lewis made it known that he was coming to Lexington.

This was an important signing for the UK football program. The Wildcats had already secured commitments from offensive linemen Darrian Kinnard, a 4-star recruit out of Cleveland, Ohio and Marquan McCall, a 4-star offensive guard from Oak Park, Michigan. McCall plays both offense and defense. The UK football coaches have been adamant that McCall will be playing defensive tackle for the Wildcats.

Getting Lewis to commit helps strengthen the offensive line that will undergo some changes heading into next season. Both Kyle Meadows and Cole Mosier are moving on and Kentucky has no more than potential slated to start next season at the offensive tackle spot.

After picking up Lewis and wide receiver LiAllen Dailey, UK football now has 23 commitments to its 2018 recruiting class. With February 7th, National Signing Day, quickly approaching, Mark Stoops is not done yet.
