2. Stopping the Weatherspoon brothers
Quinndary and Nick Weatherspoon comprise the starting backcourt for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The brothers from Canton, Mississippi are the top offensive weapons for the Bulldogs this season.
The older brother, Quinndary, is a junior and the leading scorer on the Bulldogs. Quinndary is an all-around combo guard. He is averaging 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
A three-year starter for Mississippi State, Quinndary Weatherspoon has added a more efficient outside shot to his game. He is also averaging a career-high in assists this season. Quinndary dropped 10 dimes in a game earlier this season against North Dakota State.
Quinndary’s younger brother Nick starts along side his sibling in the Bulldogs’ starting backcourt. Though just a freshman, Nick has asserted himself as a valuable part of the Bulldogs offense. Nick Weatherspoon is a skilled scorer. He’s averaging just over 10 points per game and dropped 22 in a win over Arkansas earlier this season.
The Kentucky guards need to limit the Weatherspoon brothers’ impact on the game. Neither is a dead-eye from downtown, so I expect the Cats to stay in their zone defense. If it worked against Florida, surely it can help to shutdown Mississippi State.
