4. 1983 Mideast Regional Final – UofL 80 UK 68
This one still stings for Wildcat fans. The Mideast Regional final was the first match up between Kentucky and Louisville since 1959. Kentucky possessed a 12 point lead for a period of time during the game and a 7 point lead at halftime. Louisville stormed back in the second half. Led by Lancaster Gordon‘s 24 points, the Cardinals took a 62-60 lead with just seconds left. The Wildcats put the ball in the hands of Jim Master, who hadn’t missed a shot in the second half. Master sunk a baseline jumper at the horn and the game was tied 62-62 at the end of regulation. UofL would dominate the overtime period and advance to the Final Four after defeating Kentucky 80-68. The Cardinals would fall to National Runner-up Houston in the next game 94-81.
