UK Football vs Northwestern: Examine the Enemy
By Drew Koch
Head Coach: Pat Fitzgerald
Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald was a linebacker for the Wildcats in the mid-90’s. The former two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (1995 and 1996) returned to his alma mater in 2001 to coach the defensive backs at Northwestern under head coach Randy Walker. The following season, Fitzgerald became the team’s linebacker coach and held that position until taking over as the head coach after the unexpected death of Walker.
Fitzgerald’s overall record as the Wildcats’ head coach is 86-65 (.570). Northwestern has yet to win a Big Ten Championship in Fitzgerald’s time as the head man in Evanston. Fitzgerald has a 2-5 record in bowl games. Kentucky will hope to add another number to the loss column this coming Friday in the Music City Bowl.
