Kentucky Basketball: Cats Move Up In Latest AP Poll
By Drew Koch
The Kentucky basketball team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest AP Poll.
The Kentucky basketball team had been leapfrogged the past few weeks and remained stagnant at No. 8 in the AP Poll. After defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday the Wildcats moved up to No. 7 in the AP Poll. The Cats did, however, drop one spot in the USA Today Coach’s Poll from No. 5 to No. 6.
Not many Top 10 upsets occurred throughout the week and with Virginia Tech being unranked, the Wildcats were not expected to move up much in the polls. Wichita State lost to Oklahoma over the weekend and fell from No. 3 to No. 11.
The Kentucky basketball team has remained in the AP Top 10 throughout the first seven weeks of the college basketball season. The Wildcats hope to maintain that distinction after this Saturday’s game in New Orleans. Kentucky plays the UCLA Bruins in the CBS Sports Classic this Saturday.
Even if the Cats pull out a victory this weekend, don’t expect them to move up in the polls unless any of the teams ahead of them lose. Kentucky will not play a ranked opponent until possibly next Saturday when they play Louisville. The Cardinals are currently unranked, but are just outside the Top 25 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll.
The top teams in the AP Poll got bit of shake up with the Shockers’ loss to the Sooners. Villanova, Michigan State, Arizona State, Duke and North Carolina round out the Top 5.
