Kentucky Wildcats: Injury Update vs Va Tech
By Drew Koch
The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team was down two players in the second half last weekend against Monmouth. Will Sacha Killeya-Jones and Quade Green return this Saturday against Virginia Tech?
Quade Green played 16 minutes for the Kentucky Wildcats at the Citi Hoops Classic before being injured. Green was poked in the eye and was forced to sit the remainder of the game. He finished with 9 points on 4-of-6 shooting, 3 rebounds and 5 assists.
Sacha Killeya-Jones was unavailable for the game against Monmouth with a sprained ankle. Killeya-Jones has made strides this season and has seen an increase in minutes. His extra playing time has resulted in an uptick in scoring, rebounding and blocks.
John Calipari was asked at yesterday’s press conference if Green and Killeya-Jones would be able to play, via CoachCal.com:
"“I believe so. I believe so. Yes, but until game time – something could happen today. It’s funny they both got better and everything was going good and then they got to take a step back. The good news is we saw that Tai can play, that Tai is good enough to do what he needs to do. And then the other thing is we went small and it didn’t look bad. So, we were able to see that.”"
Tai Wynyard did play well in Killeya-Jones’ absence and when Nick Richards was saddled with foul trouble. He played 12 minutes, scored 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
All signs points to Green and Killeya-Jones being able to play against the Hokies this afternoon. Green’s scoring ability and Killeya-Jones’ defense will be heavily relied upon against Virginia Tech. The Hokies lead the NCAA in scoring and Green’s ability to knock down the outside shot may prove invaluable to the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.
