Kentucky Basketball: Shades of (Quade) Green and Blue
By Drew Koch
Quade Green donned a new pair of shades and helped lead the Kentucky basketball team to their seventh straight win.
Quade Green had a new accessory on Saturday which is sure to be hit with Big Blue Nation. Green suffered an injury last Saturday against Monmouth when he was poked in the eye during the second half. Green never returned, but the Wildcats still emerged victorious. During today’s win over Virginia Tech, Green wore a pair of protective goggles.
Green was limited in practice earlier this week. During Monday’s call-in show coach John Calipari said that Green’s eye was almost swollen shut. Green came off the bench today during the game against Virginia Tech. He knocked down 50% of his shots, including 2 three-point shots. Green finished Saturday’s game with 17 points and 5 assists.
The Wildcats need Green to continue to knock down shots, especially from behind the arc. Green has been one of Kentucky’s most consistent three-point shooters. He’s hit 11-of-25 (44%) on the season. The Cats have shown they’re typically not going to beat teams with their perimeter game, so Kentucky has to make the most of their three-point opportunities.
The Wildcats will need Green to be at his best in the next few weeks, with or without his new shades. UCLA plays Kentucky the Saturday before Christmas in New Orleans. Speaking of Christmas, during his post-game interview, it sounded like Green had a nice Christmas gift for Big Blue Nation.
Kentucky Sports Radio provided audio from a post-game interview with Green. During the interview Green said, “We’re going to beat Louisville…That’s my Christmas present for y’all.” That Christmas present would make Kentucky fans very happy.
