NEW YORK, NY – DECEMBER 09: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander /

During last Saturday’s game against Monmouth, freshman guard Quade Green was poked in the eye. Calipari discussed Green’s injury earlier this week and his status is unknown for the game against the Hokies this weekend. If Green is unavailable or limited, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander must step up to fill the void at the point guard position.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance as of late is a marked improvement over his play earlier this season. He may have the most well-rounded game among the Kentucky freshmen. Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 10.1 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.

With Jermal Baker out the Wildcats are already thin at the guard position. Gilgeous-Alexander will be called upon to play heavy minutes against Virginia Tech if Green can’t go on Saturday.
