The human highlight reel, Zion Williamson, is set to make his first visit to the Kentucky basketball program this weekend.

Its not breaking news that Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari is known for bringing in top recruits all the time. Although the 2017 season has yet to begin, Coach Cal is already looking towards the 2018 campaign when it comes to recruiting.

Zion Williamson is the number 2 overall recruit in the 2018 class. The five-star recruit out of South Carolina has already made himself famous. His dunks and highlight-type plays can be found pretty much anywhere throughout the internet.

When recruiting for Williamson began, Duke came out as an immediate favorite. Kentucky quickly emerged as a competitor to the Blue Devils. He will begin his official visit tour this weekend with the Kentucky Wildcats.

This is a very positive sign for Kentucky basketball, as it’s obvious Williamson is viewing the Cats as a top contender for his services. The battle seems to be between Duke and Kentucky now, with Clemson as another option.

Everyone expects Williamson to still visit Duke and probably Clemson, but getting his first visit is a huge step to signing him. An offer probably won’t be accepted immediately. I’m sure Calipari will make his intentions known, though.

Coach Calipari has the 2nd best recruiting class coming in 2017 only behind Duke, according to ESPN. Getting a player with the caliber of Zion Williamson for 2018 would be a giant step towards having the number one class next year.

Obviously, there is plenty of time remaining until the 2018 recruiting is wrapped up. Kentucky, though, is headed in the right direction, as usual. Currently, ESPN gives Kentucky basketball a 35% confidence level to acquire Williamson for the 2018 season. Duke and Clemson are falling behind the Wildcats just a bit.
