Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: Who will be the Wildcats’ first 2018 commitment?
Kentucky Basketball fans are always wondering who will be the next commit.
Just as soon as the 2017 recruiting period ended with a bang, Kentucky Basketball fans moved on to the next wave. Who will be the first commitment from the class of 2018?
We all have our opinions. But, it is logical to think that Immanuel Quickley will more than likely be the first commit of the 2018 Class.
Quickley is a part of the USA U19 team in which John Calipari is head coach. In other words, Calpari has the opportunity to get close with the recruit and show him a preview as to what things will be like if he were to choose Kentucky. The same goes for other top recruits. Cameron Reddish and Romeo Langford. Two of the top recruits in the class are also playing for Calipari.
It also helps that the USA U19 team also has a couple of other recruiters on the team. Hamidou Diallo and PJ Washington are going to headline the Kentucky Basketball roster in 2017-2018. If anyone knows what it’s like to be at Kentucky, its Diallo. He has been a part of the team for half of a season. More importantly, he was in the practices, and running drills in preparation for the SEC and NCAA Tournaments.
Who to keep an eye on
Obviously, we think Immanuel Quickley will be the first commitment. He is reportedly wanting to get the recruiting aspect out of the way, before his senior season.
Some other names to watch out for are obviously Cameron Reddish. Romeo Langford is thought to favor Louisville and Duke at the moment, but the influence that John Calipari has with this USA U19 team may change that. If there is a Langford commitment on the docket, expect for that to be later down the line.

One name that is intriguing is Louis King. King is a member of the U19 squad headed to Egypt. He doesn’t have an official offer from Kentucky just yet. But, I would say after John Calipari sees him perform on the big stage with the best young players in the country, he will get his offer. Obviously, Calipari likes his talent or he wouldn’t be on the team. King isn’t as highly rated as the other stars mentioned, but he is a big talent with a smooth shooting stroke. He would be a great pick-up for Kentucky. I expect a quick commitment once Calipari extends his offer.
