On Monday the Philadelphia 76ers worked out former Kentucky Basketball guard Isaiah Briscoe.
The former Kentucky Basketball guard was joined by Melo Trimble from Maryland and Reggie Upshaw of Middle Tennessee, just to name a few. According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, Briscoe is the 71st overall prospect. No matter what team he lands on, they will be getting one of the toughest guards in the draft.
What does he bring?
Since declaring for the draft back in April, Briscoe’s sights have been set on working on his game and making it to the league. After declaring for the draft last season, then ultimately returning for his sophomore year, Briscoe’s stats improved gaining scouts attention.
During his freshman season the biggest knock on Briscoe going into the draft was his poor jump shooting. Shooting 13 percent from three and 46 percent from the free throw line his freshman season, NBA scouts wanted to see those numbers improve. Returning for his sophomore season was the best thing he could’ve done. During that season Briscoe improved both his three point and free throw percentage. Even though his offensive numbers were low, he showed he was a talented passer, rebounder and defender. Although his numbers might not be quite where teams wanted them, he showed he is an NBA talent.
Since entering the draft, Briscoe has worked out for the Rockets, Raptors, Knicks, and the Sixers. Of those teams only New York, Houston and Philadelphia have second round picks each having two or more except New York. But of those three teams, there are two that he could have an immediate impact with; New York & Philadelphia.
Where does he wind up?
With the inconsistency of Derrick Rose at point guard, Briscoe will have a chance to come in and play right away in New York. Being from New Jersey he has the New York playing style. A scrappy player who can get to the rim, and does a bit of everything. Also the idea of Briscoe alongside of Kristaps Porzingis, and Carmelo Anthony could be something special. The Knicks sound like a great spot for this former Cat.
Another good landing spot for Briscoe is with the Philadelphia 76ers. Having a ball dominant forward like Ben SImmons the 76ers will target a point guard who does it all. Briscoe could be that guy, he can pass, rebound, defend, and score when needed. Another good sign for him is that he would be joining another former Cat on the roster, Alex Poythress. With four second round picks, Philadelphia landing Briscoe would be an ideal fit.
