This Kentucky Baseball season has been nothing less than spectacular. Nick Mingione is a huge reason for the Wildcats’ success.

Although he would never admit it, Nick Mingione has turned this Kentucky Baseball program around in just one single season. His passion and relationships with his players are major keys as to why he has had success.

This baseball team has done things in Mingione’s first season that no other team has done. Kentucky has more wins this season under a first year head coach than ever before. Mingione’s squad will take on the NC State Wolfpack for the regional championship tonight. A first in the super regional is on the line. If the Wildcats were to win, a matchup with in-state rival, Louisville will be the next step to a College World Series.

Mingione joins the Kentucky staff after serving as an assistant at Mississippi State for eight seasons. Having a coach like Mingione at Kentucky is just what this program needed. After many years of having above average teams, Kentucky has made it’s way to the top of the SEC and hosting a regional for the first time since 2006. The Kentucky Baseball head man took home the SEC coach of the year award. His team racked up on awards as well.

This team seems to play at another level for this man. Kentucky Baseball has been fun to watch this season. The players are having fun on the field and are playing the game the right way.

Regional Championship

Kentucky will be competing tonight for the Lexington regional championship. A win would match the Wildcats up with the Louisville Cardinals. Louisville has been one of the top ranked teams in the country all season long. The Wildcats have dug their way out of the loser’s bracket to force a winner-take-all game seven. In order for the Cats to win, the bats will need to stay hot. Also, pitching would need to take a front seat in the ride to the super regional. If Kentucky wants to make their first College World Series in program history, tonight’s matchup with NC State will prove their worth.
