Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: 3 reasons Mohamed Bamba picks the Wildcats
3. Proven big man track record
Arguably three of the top 10 big men in the NBA have gotten their start at Kentucky. Karl Anthony-Towns left Kentucky after averaging just 10 points and nearly seven rebounds in just 21 minutes per game on Kentucky’s 2013-14 platoon team. That team consisted of seven current NBA contracted players. Now, how can you dispute the fact that at Kentucky, there is a common theme among NBA preparation.
Anthony Davis took the world by storm on the 2012 National Championship team. Sweeping all major player of the year awards as a freshman, Davis took his game to another level while in Lexington.
As Bamba makes his decision between Duke, Texas and Kentucky, he will probably run through some of the post players each school has put into the league and assess their current situations. The number two player in the country will want the best for what his situation is. But, as a competitor who wants what it best for his future, you can’t go against the track record of Coach Cal and “post player whisperer” Kenny Payne.
Take the current top three big men that played at Duke, and take the ones from Texas. Add them to one team and say that their trio would defeat Demarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis and Karl Anthony-Towns. You can’t.
