Coach John Calipari and the Kentucky Basketball program has extended a scholarship offer to Bol Bol. He is the son of former NBA player Manute Bol, the 7-foot-7 shot blocker.

Five-star recruit Bol Bol is the prime example of basketball’s transition to power forwards and centers that can play the perimeter. Bol is 7-foot-1 and possesses all of the traits you want to see in a guard. The Mater Dei Prep School junior is the 5th ranked prospect in the 2018 class and now Kentucky basketball wants him.

Kentucky joins the likes of Arizona, Kansas, and UCLA as schools to offer Bol so far. Look for Duke and North Carolina to hop in as he continues to fly up ranking boards. He has taken off so far in the Nike EYBL tournament, proving that he is better than his current ranking. According to Yahoo Sports, Bol is averaging 25.4 points per game through eight games. Also, he is shooting a ridiculous 53 percent from three point land, 66 percent from the field overall.

His efficiency on offense from the perimeter and inside makes him an enticing target for college teams. To add on to his offense, he has the shot-blocking capability that will make him a defensive nightmare for opponents. Calipari’s “positionless” player scheme is perfect Bol’s play style, and that is why Kentucky is smart to have offered him.

While it is early, it is exciting to note that Kentucky is the front runner for getting this elite prospect according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball (Kentucky 50 percent and Kansas 38 percent). He brings energy and an elite scorer in the center position, which Kentucky hasn’t had since Karl-Anthony Towns.

Between him and Marvin Bagley, the No. 2 prospect in the country, it will be exciting to see where they land. One thing is for sure, John Calipari will not rest until he gets an elite group of young stars.
