Kentucky Basketball: Ranking the Best Shooting Guards of the Calipari Era
2. Malik Monk (2016-2017)
The most recent of the shooting guards, Malik Monk had a very decorated freshman year. The Jerry West Award winner broke Kentucky’s freshman scoring record with 754 points. That alone is enough to earn him this spot, but his scoring led Kentucky to an Elite Eight appearance and another SEC Conference championship.
The SEC scoring leader and SEC Player of the Year averaged 19.8 points per game, highlighted by multiple 30-point outings and one 47 point show against the National Champion Tar Heels. That game was the best scoring output seen in a long time from Wildcat, and with it coming in such a high profile game makes it all the more pleasing.
Malik Monk has worked his way to a top-seven pick in the most recent mock drafts, and looks to continue his excellence in the league. His scoring was a treat for all who watched, fans and non-fans alike.
