Mark Smith, Mr. Illinois

Mark Smith is a four-star recruit, and one of the top remaining left in the field. Unofficially, Kentucky is one of his finalists, but Duke, Michigan State, and Illinois are very much in the mix. Duke has hopped in late to stir up the pot, and all teams have something offer Smith. With Kentucky, he would be joining Green and Gilgeous-Alexander, and have a shot at doing something special. Alexander, a teammate of Smith’s at the Kentucky Derby Classic, has had a chance to give him his pitch to join him at Kentucky.

Michigan State is the official favorite right now at 56 percent on the Crystal Ball, and with Miles Bridges opting to return, it’s an intriguing proposition for Smith. Illinois trails at 44 percent, and the hometown card is being played strongly with this one. Smith would be a nice piece to round out the class, showing signs of a good three-point shooter with tremendous basketball I.Q. Kentucky would be very fortunate to get this one.
